A famous singer who had “the night to end all nights” in Angus last year is returning to the town that bowled her over.
Montrose Music Festival hosted Scots singer-songwriter Eddi Reader at its headline gig in 2012, leading her to ask if she could return to the area.
Festival chairman David Paton said organisers are honoured by how much Reader thinks of the town, and tickets are now available for her concert in November.
“We are delighted to welcome back Eddi after her sell out headline gig at MoFest 2012,” he said.
“It’s an honour to know that she enjoyed the gig and festival so much she asked to return. Tickets are selling well but they are still available at Ticketmaster and @Bar in Hume Street, Montrose.”
The award-winning solo artist and former Fairground Attraction singer will perform at the town hall on Friday November 22.
She said of her 2012 appearance: “What a great bunch of people… if I never sing again that would have been the night to end all nights.”
Reader grew up on the west coast and started off busking and performing at folk clubs. In the early 1980s, she travelled around Europe with circus and performance artists before moving to London, where she became a session vocalist.
She was a backing singer with cult punk band Gang of Four and the Eurythmics in her early career, but it was when she joined Fairground Attraction and released the chart-topping single Perfect that she drew the attention of a wider audience. Mr Paton said potential headliners have already been approached for next year’s MoFest, even though the most recent event only took place in May.
He said: “Plans are already under way for next year’s festival and several potential headline acts have been approached to take to Montrose Town Hall’s stage to kick off the weekend.
“The applications for bands to play at MoFest 2014 will open in August online at the website www.montrosemusicfestival.co.uk.”
