The home of a missing Angus man was searched under warrant by police on the day he disappeared.

Ian Low, 59, from Ferry Street, Montrose, has been missing since last Friday afternoon and officers have been appealing for the public’s help in finding him.

Police yesterday confirmed a property in Montrose was the subject of a search and several items were removed as part of an ongoing investigation.

Neighbours yesterday said that they had also heard Mr Low’s car, a silver Rover, was searched by officers as part of the probe.

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers searched a house in Montrose under warrant on Friday August 2. A number of items were taken from the house for further examination.

“No one has been arrested or charged at this stage of the inquiry.”

Nobody was at home when The Courier called at Mr Low’s address.

However a businessman, who asked not to be named, said: “The police searched his car days before he disappeared. It used to be parked just down the street but they searched it before he went missing.

“They also had a joiner to get in to his place.”

He added that Mr Low previously lived with his brother and also has a wife, understood to be from the Philippines.

A neighbour described Mr Low as someone who seemed “OK” and was usually found “pottering about the garden”.

Chief Inspector Gordon Milne revealed that members of the Metropolitan Police in London have joined the inquiry after it emerged Mr Low had lived and worked in the capital for a period of time.

“It has come to light that Mr Low used to work and live in London where he also has a son,” he said.

“We have appointed a family liaison officer as part of the inquiry who is providing assistance and giving Mr Low’s relatives information. We have been in touch with the family and have given support.”

Mr Milne made a further appeal for anyone with information to get in touch with police.

He said: “We are keen for him or anyone who has information to get in touch. We just want to establish that he is safe and well.”

Ian Low is described as being around 5ft 9in, of slim build with short greying hair.
