A cat is being cared for after using up one if its nine lives in a 40ft adventure up an Angus tree.
Tayside firefighters rescued the mischievous moggy after the owners of a farm near Newbigging, north of Dundee, heard the young tabby’s cries from among the branches, where it had been happily playing before becoming trapped by fear.
Scottish SPCA animal rescue officer Steph Alexander called out Tayside Fire and Rescue Service, who were able to bring the frightened feline to safety last Thursday.
Named Cleo by staff at the SSPCA’s Angus, Fife and Tayside Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Petterden, between Dundee and Forfar, the young female is recovering well from her aerial ordeal.
Steph said: “When I arrived at the farm last Wednesday, Cleo was moving freely up and down the tree.
“I wanted to give her a chance to come down on her own so I decided to go back the next day to check on her. Cleo tried to get down on Thursday but slipped and got a real fright.
“At this point she went back to the top of the tree and refused to move so I decided to ask Tayside Fire and Rescue Service if they could help.
“Cleo was shaken and very hungry when she was brought to safety but otherwise unharmed.
“She’s around two years old and in good overall condition. If she has an owner who’s missing her it would be lovely to reunite them, but if no one comes forward we’ll find her a nice new home.”
Anyone who recognises Cleo is asked to call 03000 999 999.
