A Mearns chip shop is serving up a fundraising dinner for residents hit by the floods in Stonehaven.

The Bay Fish and Chip Shop, voted the UK’s best independent chip shop at the recent Seafish Awards, will be hosting a three-course meal at Drumtochty Castle, Auchenblae, on Saturday.

Around 40 people were evacuated from their homes in December when Stonehaven was battered by severe weather.

Parts of the town were flooded and houses and businesses were destroyed or badly damaged amid the wet weather which hit the town just before Christmas.

The town has been putting itself back together again since the storms and the fundraiser will help raise even more cash for the victims of the floods.

Calum Richardson, owner of The Bay Fish and Chip Shop, has rallied together celebrity chef Nick Nairn and owner of Ondine in Edinburgh, Roy Brett, along with local businesses to help raise cash for the Stonehaven Flood Fund.

Mr Richardson said: “I decided to organise the event to give something back to the community as it has shown me so much support.

“We rely on the local economy and the sea plays a huge part in our business.”

Tickets are on sale now for £100 per person or £1,000 for a table of 10. Contact the shop on 01569 762000.
