A former nightclub in Angus was the subject of intense police activity after a firearm was found.
Dozens of police officers were called to the disused Waterfront nightclub in Arbroath after workmen made the unexpected discovery.
The Courier understands a sawn-off shotgun was found concealed in a ceiling or floor space, although police could only confirm it was a non-specific firearm.
A spokeswoman said: “Tayside Police attended at a vacant premises at Queen’s Drive, Arbroath, around 11.15am on Wednesday February 27 following a report that a firearm had been found within. The item was recovered and inquiries are continuing into the matter.”
It is not known how long the weapon had lain undisturbed.
Work is under way at the premises, with the purpose of the redevelopment as yet unknown. There is speculation that the nightspot could reopen.
The building stands on what was previously Arbroath’s outdoor bathing pool, which closed at the end of 1981.
