An Angus youngster has celebrated his 10th birthday with a donation to the medical staff who saved his life.
Aiden Smith had just been transferred to his home town of Arbroath after being born in Dundee when he was rushed back to the neonatal unit of Ninewells Hospital after life-threatening complications arose.
For 10 days, staff there nursed baby Aiden through his difficulties and he is now a happy, healthy pupil at Arbroath’s Timmergreens Primary.
With this in mind, he decided to mark his 10th birthday by handing over £100 of his gift money to the unit.
Aiden’s mum Jill said: “It was completely Aiden’s idea he had been talking about doing something for the neonatal unit and decided to give them some of his birthday money for the care they gave him which saved his life all those years ago.
“We were shown around the unit so Aiden could see where he had spent those crucial 10 days. It was the first time I had been back since Aiden was born so it was a lovely afternoon and a reminder that the wonderful work the unit does continues on.”
