An Angus man caught behind the wheel almost four times over the legal limit was banned from the road for five years.
Harry Garden (45), of Manor Court, Forfar, appeared before Sheriff Kevin Veal at the town’s sheriff court where he admitted driving or attempting to drive a vehicle on Craig O’Loch Road and Manor Street on December 11 with excess alcohol (136 mics).
Defence agent Bob Bruce said: “He only has one previous conviction, which regrettably is an analogous offence.
“He had been at a friend’s house with the intention of leaving the next day. When he woke up he was freezing and initially went into his car to heat up, but unfortunately succumbed to the temptation to drive it.”
Sheriff Veal said: “There is a previous conviction for a related offence in 2006 and the level is almost four times the limit, which is a very high figure.”
He also imposed a 12-month community payback order on Garden, incorporating conditions of supervision and substance misuse support.
