An Angus man was jailed for his involvement in a nightclub melee.
Derek Campbell, 21, a prisoner at Peterhead, received a five-month sentence at Arbroath Sheriff Court following a disturbance at the town’s Coast nightclub on December 10 2011.
Campbell admitted assaulting a man by repeatedly punching him on the head and body and knocking him to the ground. The offence was committed while Campbell was on bail for another matter.
The court heard Campbell had been with a group of males dressed in gangster outfits.
Depute fiscal Jill Drummond said a disturbance broke out between two men outside the club around 2am, resulting in one man being headbutted.
She added: “The accused and another male wearing the same gangster costume then assaulted the injured man and pushed him to the ground.
“The witness was knocked to the ground and punched repeatedly, not just by the accused but by all of the males.”
Police were called and CCTV was reviewed.
Defence agent Nick Whelan said Campbell had been provoked prior to the assault.
He added: “Mr Campbell accepts he punched and struck the complainer.”
