An ambulance was called to an Angus school this week after a pupil was found suffering from what is believed to be the effects of a “legal high”.
Rumours circulated on social networking sites following a claim the Carnoustie High School pupil had been smoking a legal substance in the school toilet.
Police said they had been informed of the incident but had taken no action as no law had been broken.
Angus Council confirmed an ambulance was called to the school on Tuesday following concerns for a pupil’s medical welfare, but declined to elaborate on the circumstances.
A council spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that an ambulance was called to the school on Tuesday because the school’s trained first aider was concerned about the health of a pupil.
“In doing so, the school was following its established protocol in relation to the health and wellbeing of its pupils.”
A spokeswoman for Tayside Police said the force had been made aware of the claim but took no further action.
The spokeswoman said: “Tayside Police were informed of this legal high at about 6pm on the March 20. The circumstances were noted but no action was taken as it is a legal high.”
