Neither Montrose nor Rangers fans would have been particularly happy with Saturday’s game and 0-0 result at Links Park but one team was left satisfied.
Tayside Police Superintendent Kevin Lynch, who was match commander, was pleased with his squad’s performance at the game, even if the players on the pitch did not meet the expectations of their fans.
Saturday’s match was the first to see the presence of police horses at a game in Tayside and the superintendent welcomed their presence and effect on the crowd.
Mr Lynch said: “Things went very well today and I must compliment both sets of supporters for their behaviour. Unfortunately, there was some sectarian singing and two Rangers supporters were arrested in relation to this.
“The horses were of great assistance and helped to minimise the impact of the game on the local community.
“It was the first time they have been used in Tayside and I really welcomed it they were a great asset to have.”
