Former Olympian Liz McColgan has revealed that she is quitting Scotland after divorcing husband Peter last week.
Decree of divorce, a legal order granting the termination of marriage, was granted by Sheriff Peter Paterson in a brief hearing at Arbroath Sheriff Court.
The official split comes just over a year since Ms McColgan (48) was cleared of assaulting her husband at their home near Carnoustie and follows the liquidation of their health club business.
She said: “It’s time to move on. The last few years have been very tough. I felt as if I lost my identity for a while because of everything that has been thrown up at me during the marriage break up.
“Now I’ve decided I’m sick of looking back all the time and I realise it’s time to follow a new path.”
Ms McColgan, who currently lives near Carnoustie, hopes to establish a health club in Loughborough, where new love John Nuttall lives.
She said: “I absolutely love Scotland and I’m still very loyal to my country. It was my choice as my career took off to remain in Scotland and bring up my children here.
“Now I just want to be somewhere where I’m less recognisable and able to live my life without everyone knowing my personal business.”
