An Arbroath man who drove while drunk and disqualified was jailed at the town’s court.
Barry Lee Stewart, 35, of Priory Crescent, admitted that on Sunday on Brechin Road, Bruce Road, Priory Crescent, all Arbroath, he drove a vehicle while disqualified, without insurance and with excess alcohol (117 mic).
Depute fiscal Jill Drummond said police had been called by a witness who saw Stewart had been drinking before driving.
“Officers saw the accused clearly driving the car in Bruce Road and followed his car,” she said.
“When the accused was stopped, officers found he strongly smelled of alcohol and a check revealed that Stewart was disqualified.”
A breath test produced the reading of more than three times the drink-drive limit.
Defence agent Billy Rennie said his client had a love of cars and driving and had “found it hard to resist temptation”.
He added that Stewart had consumed two or three drinks that afternoon but had been “topping up from the night before”, which was the reason for the high reading.
Sheriff Peter Paterson jailed Stewart for eight months and banned him from holding or obtaining a licence for six years.
