Health chiefs have pledged to keep an MSP updated on the prospects of GP cover for an Angus village.
The SNP’s Graeme Dey raised the Letham issue in Holyrood after voicing concern over the delay in progressing a plan which could see the return of a doctor to the community.
A potential provider has been identified, and NHS Tayside’s own survey figures have highlighted a situation, which reveals that around 100 patients a week have to travel out of the village for appointments.
Letham Community Council has been backing the push for GP provision following improvements to the village health centre at Jubilee Court and the introduction of a now thriving village pharmacy.
Mr Dey told Health Secretary Alex Neil there was frustration over the apparent lack of progress on the business plan due to a situation that arose within the primary care directorate of NHS Tayside.
A spokesman for NHS Tayside has now said the MSP will be kept informed of progress, and reaffirmed the ambition to have a doctor back in Letham.
“Chief executive Gerry Marr has written to Mr Dey, assuring him that NHS Tayside is committed to improving services for Letham, and that business plan options are currently being progressed.
“We have also offered Mr Dey the opportunity to meet with the general manager of Angus CHP to discuss the issue further.”
