An Angus man who aggressively demanded a needle to puncture his own face had his sentence deferred.
Richard Martin, 33, of Traill Terrace, Montrose, appeared from custody at Arbroath Sheriff Court before Sheriff Peter Paterson.
He previously admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at the minor injury unit, Links Health Centre, Montrose, on Thursday, February 21.
Martin further admitted demanding needles to puncture an injury, demanding antibiotics, shouting and swearing at a member of medical staff, repeatedly refusing to leave and threatening staff he would return, all while on bail from Dundee and Arbroath sheriff courts.
Defence agent Nick Whelan said his client would be placed on a rehabilitation course in an effort to deal with alcohol issues.
He added: “He has had a chronic alcohol problem for a number of years. This course is one of intensive detox.”
Depute fiscal Jill Drummond told the court when Martin was seen by staff at the clinic, he asked for the swelling below his eye to be punctured with a needle. When they refused he said he would do it himself and then demanded he be given antibiotics.
Martin was heard to shout: “You are useless, I don’t know what you get paid for.”
The staff member was left shaken by the confrontation and called the police. Sheriff Paterson called for reports and told Martin to return in eight weeks when his course had been completed.
He said: “We will see how well he is coping with his detoxification at that stage.”
Sentence was deferred until May 28.
