Walkers from across the world are flocking to Angus to take part in this year’s Glens Walking Festival.
Visitors from Australia, France, Germany and Canada have all signed up to take part in the event, which gives participants the chance to see some of the untouched gems in the Angus countryside.
Angus residents are also being urged to lace up their boots and get involved in the event and places are still available for those interested.
However, organisers are warning those who have not booked places yet to act quickly or end up disappointed. The festival, which is organised by Angus Council’s economic development unit, takes place from next Thursday to Sunday June 2.
There is a range of 27 walks to choose from over the four days, with routes to suit all abilities, including several walks for the more daring types which have been graded “extremely strenuous”.
Tom McGrath, chairman of the Angus Glens Walking Festival, said: “We still have places left on some very interesting walks.
“There is a challenging walk, which starts in Glen Prosen and takes in two Munros (Driesh and Mayer) before descending into Corrie Fee one of the most picturesque locations in Angus.
“If the weather is clear, the views will be stunning. For those walkers looking for something more sedate, why not try the coastal walk from Dunninald Castle to the Scottish Wildlife Trust Centre at Montrose Basin?
“You will get the opportunity to view the amazing array of birdlife in the basin, speak to the experts at the centre and lunch is included.”
On the Saturday night of the festival, the ever-popular ceilidh returns. This time the dance is being held at the event’s centre Kirriemuir Town Hall.
On offer are a hearty supper, a few drinks and the chance to join in the dancing to music provided by local group The Mad Parrot Ceilidh Band. Visit www.angusglenswalkingfestival.com to browse the walks on offer.
