Forfar man John Phillips killed in tree-felling accident near Westmuir

A young man who died in a tragic accident in an Angus woodland has been named by police.
John Phillips, of Balkeerie, Forfar, was working on land at Auchendorie Farm, near Westmuir, on Thursday when he was crushed by a falling tree.
Emergency services rushed to the farm around 1.50pm.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, Mr Phillips (29) who worked as a wood cutter was pronounced dead at the scene.
Equipment on the farm was used to release him from under the tree.
A police spokesman said a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal. The tragedy will also be the subject of an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive.
In a similar incident last week near Balbeggie in Perthshire a tree surgeon was trapped under a falling tree, but he escaped with pelvic and leg injuries.
