BRECHIN IS set for a 2013 jobs boost with confirmation that two new businesses are to take up plots at the burgh’s business park.
Since its creation in the late 1990s the business park has attracted local and international businesses to the county.
Angus Council has now confirmed that a further two plots have been sold, totalling approximately 2.5 hectares.
Local company Thrums Engineering and international operation Continental Alloys recently obtained planning permission to start construction on new facilities on the park.
Thrums Engineering have already made an early start on site and it’s anticipated Continental Alloys will be on site early in the New Year.
It is estimated that the new arrivals will create at least 20 skilled jobs in the medium term, with a number of local construction jobs over the development and fit-out phases of their units.
Welcoming the news, council economic development spokesperson Councillor Mairi Evans said: “We have really enjoyed renewed interest in this park over the last nine months.
“A combination of factors, including the competitiveness of land prices in Angus, the park’s existing infrastructure and immediate availability, the location’s accessibility to the major road and sea port networks, the continued growth of the oil industry and the new wave of renewable industries coming into the market has resulted in a number of positive enquiries which we are currently pursuing,” she added.
“We hope to continue to grow on the success already achieved on the business park this year by attracting further local and international businesses.
Ms Evans added: “Against the backdrop of current economic climate it’s very encouraging seeing any new activity.
“These companies don’t pick locations without very careful consideration and it’s fantastic for Angus as these businesses can invest millions in the local economy and often employ local people.”
The business park, developed by the council with the assistance of Scottish Enterprise, sits to the west of Brechin on the A935 adjacent the popular Brechin Castle Garden Centre and tourist attraction Pictavia, close to both the town centre and the A90 dual carriageway.
