THE NATION’S sharpest satirical cartoonists have drawn a smile from Angus art gallery visitors.
The Bank Street Gallery in Kirriemuir pulled off a coup when a cheeky approach by owner Susie Clark to the editor of long-running satirical magazine Private Eye paid off.
Susie approached Ian Hislop asking if he might consider a trip north with the Eye’s 50th anniversary exhibition, staged at London’s V&A.
Although the Have I Got News For You star could not meet that request, he was happy to put the Angus gallery in touch with many of the famous names whose work featured in the display.
The acclaimed cartoonists were then happy to send items to Angus for a special showing at the Bank Street Gallery, which is now drawing to a close after a very successful six-week run.
“I thought it was a great coup for the gallery to be able to display the work of such incredible cartoonists who have appeared in the Eye over its five decades,” Susie said.
“Staging the exhibition was a real challenge, but great fun. It has certainly been well received and the best part is how much it has broken down the usual silence in a gallery everyone leaves laughing.”
The Eye exhibition ends on December 30.
