Kirriemuir man fined £1,500 for using counterfeit bank notes

AN ANGUS man has been fined £1,500 for using and possessing counterfeit bank notes.
Steven Orrock (27), from Roman Road in Kirriemuir, appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court yesterday where he was given the fine after he admitted using fake Clydesdale Bank notes at the Queens Hotel in Forfar on January 19 last year.
He committed the offence while on bail for two previous offences, granted to him on October 27 2011 and January 9 2012.
Sheriff Kevin Veal said the number of notes involved in the offence and the fact that Orrock had committed the crime shortly after being placed on bail for a previous offence made the charge a serious one.
Sheriff Veal said: “There is no doubt that the case, one of counterfeiting, was in my view serious because there were 30 bank notes in charge one and the offence was committed only 10 days after being placed on bail.”
Orrock was fined £750 for passing, or tendering as genuine, a thing which he knew or believed to be counterfeit money and an additional £750 for having the notes in his possession.
He was also fined £300 for a separate assault and bail aggravation charge, relating to an incident on May 28, 2012.
