Council’s library vans grounded

ANGUS COUNCIL’S rural library vans were yesterday grounded due to problems involving electrical power supplies.

Staff contacted customers and were working to resolve the problem which affected Piperdam, Liff, Auchterhouse, Lunanhead, Edzell and Basin View areas.

Angus Council spent more than £269,000 on the vehicles which take library books to locals and unlock a host of other services.

The investment included two new vehicles and a smaller transit van to reach the county’s rural residents.

The scheme was introduced following a consultation over routes and services to be provided by the new vehicles.

A council spokeswoman said: “Staff have contacted customers and are working to resolve the problem.

“Any customers wishing further information or to renew their library books should call 01307 476477.”

Rural communities form a third of the population in Angus and the council has a statutory duty to provide a satisfactory library service for all.
