AN ANGUS marine kneeled on his partner’s shoulders while he rifled through her pockets.
Robert Sheil (27), of RM Condor, Arbroath, appeared at Arbroath Sheriff Court on Tuesday following the incident on November 7.
He previously admitted assaulting the woman by lunging at her, attempting to seize her by the clothing, pursuing her, seizing her body and forcing her to the ground.
The court heard the couple had been living together at the time of the offence.
Depute fiscal Hazel Anderson said: “The accused had spent the night drinking with friends in Arbroath, while the complainer stayed at home.
“She decided to check his email and discovered several messages from an unknown female regarding a sexual relationship that had been started with the accused.”
Sheil’s partner sent him a text message telling him to come and remove his belongings from the house.
Once the pair were back in the house together they began to argue over an iPod or iPhone.
The argument became heated, prompting the woman to call 999.
Sheil grabbed her and pulled her to the floor, pinning her with his knees while he rummaged in her pockets to find the device.
Sheriff Peter Paterson deferred sentence for one year for good behaviour.
He told Sheil: “You must show some respect for women and some respect for alcohol.”
