HUNDREDS OF commuters and 2,700 homes and businesses were affected by an Angus power cut this morning.
Electrical failure in Carnoustie left homes in the dark for up to two hours.
Commuters on the line between Aberdeen and Dundee were held up for at least half an hour at around 9am, after Scottish Hydro Electric’s supply was disrupted.
Engineers restored power to 900 properties within an hour, around the length of time it took them to find a wiring fault.
Scottish Hydro Electric representative Hannah Gleave said: “We can confirm reports of a fault on our high voltage network.
“It was initially reported to us just after 9.15am. Our engineers are carrying out initial investigations.
“We have managed to restore power to around 900 customers through our back feeding process and we are hoping to drastically reduce the number of customers affected soon.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers.”
The outage has added to public transport headache in the town, as buses have snaked around the aftermath of Friday’s fire on the High Street, via Queen Street and Newton Road.
Scottish Hydro Electric personnel were seen with a police escort southbound on the A92. The source of the malfunction was still being investigated as of 11.30.
Local Sue Ryder Care charity shop manager Heather Wallace closed her store.
She said: “We have had to close the shop for health and safety reasons. We have no power except the phone and we have not heard anything about when it will come back on.”
