A man who threatened to petrol bomb a bar in Forfar appeared at Arbroath Sheriff Court.

Michael Smith (32), of Goosecroft, Forfar, admitted that on Sunday at the Osnaburg Bar in Osnaburg Street, he assaulted Karen Kennedy by pushing a door so it struck her on the body and pushed her on the body to her injury.

He also admitted that on Sunday he refused to leave the bar and that he behaved in a disorderly manner, shouting and swearing and threatening people to a fight and committing a breach of the peace.

He further admitted that in a police car, travelling from Forfar to Tayside Police headquarters in Dundee, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner in that he threatened to kill staff at the Osnaburg Bar and stated he would bomb the bar.

Depute fiscal Hazel Anderson said Smith had been drinking in the bar for an hour when he threatened to “twist the neck” of the barman.

She said: “KarenKennedy, who runs the pub, asked him to leave as she was away to close for the night and ushered him out of the premises.

“He continued to shout and tried to re-enter the pub, pushing the door so that it struck Ms Kennedy and then pushing past her.”

Sheriff Peter Paterson remanded Smith in custody while reports were prepared due to a previous conviction involving starting a fire in a flat and because he had concerns for the safety of the pub’s staff.
