A driver carrying cocaine fled from police in a high-speed chase in Montrose on Saturday while three times over the alcohol limit.
Appearing from custody at Arbroath Sheriff Court, Alan Pirie (29), Cairnview Place, Laurencekirk, admitted failing to stop when required to by police at New Wynd, Market Street and John Street in Montrose.
He further admitted that he drove dangerously towards the direction of a police vehicle causing police constables to take evasive action; drove at excessive speed; veered from side to side; failed to give way narrowly missing another vehicle; drove against the flow of traffic in a one-way street and reversed towards a police vehicle at speed, all with a complete disregard for public safety.
Pirie admitted that at John Street and High Street, Montrose, he abandoned the vehicle and ran away from officers pursuing him in a bid to evade apprehension in an attempt to pervert the course of justice.
He also admitted being in possession of a class A drug, cocaine, at John Street, Montrose, and driving with excess alcohol (109 mics) when the legal limit is 35 mics.
Sentence was deferred until March 19 and Pirie was disqualified from driving in the interim period.
