A critically ill Angus woman who has twice endured the heartbreak of having her dream wedding postponed is hoping for a day fit for a princess as she aims to make it third time lucky on Friday.
Former nurse Caroline James will don a stunning ivory floor-length dress she hopes will rival that of Kate Middleton as she prepares to wed long-term partner John James on a chartered yacht at Loch Lomond.
Caroline, who suffers from the extremely rare condition monogenic neo-natal diabetes, admits it was “love at first sight” when she met John (52) in the Ferry Inn pub in Broughty Ferry more than a decade ago.
She was overjoyed when he popped the question two years ago and began to plan an Elvis-themed wedding in Memphis only to be told she was too ill to travel.
More misery was in store for them when severe winter weather prevented them travelling to Gretna Green for a replacement ceremony on Caroline’s 50th birthday in November.
But despite the glitches along the way, the Brechin couple are confident their nuptials will be just as special as those of the future king and his bride.
Caroline said, “Everyone we speak to comments on our getting married the same day as Kate Middleton and Prince William.
“I hear the royal family will be writing to congratulate everyone who gets married on Friday that will really be special.
“It has been hard calling the wedding off twice, but we think it will be third time lucky. Hopefully there will be no snow this time!
“Everything is organised and we’re really looking forward to it.”
