The sun was shining on a Carnoustie family at the weekend as they continued their mammoth fund-raising drive aimed at sending their daughters to the United States for life-changing surgery.
Averil Fleming and partner Frazer Hirsch held a bank holiday weekend fun day on Saturday in aid of two-year-old twins Ayley and Chloe, who suffer from cerebral palsy and may never walk unaided unless they travel to St Louis Children’s Hospital in Missouri for a highly complex operation unavailable on the NHS.
Residents turned up to take advantage of face painting and beat the goalie as well as a bouncy castle and a barbecue and Averil admitted the day had been made all the better by the beautiful weather.
She said, “The turnout is fabulous and the weather has just made it amazing. Our neighbours were out from 8am helping us set up and we had people arriving from 11am.
“All the kids have been really enjoying it and the face painting seems to be doing particularly well.”
Businesses donated products to the family as means of maximising the day’s profits and Averil and Frazer said they continue to be extremely moved by the generosity of the community.
Writing on their Facebook page, the couple said the fun day raised almost £2000 taking the total raised to £27,000.
