An Angus youngster has become the envy of the greens after an amazing start to his golfing career.
Just four rounds into membership of Edzell Golf Club, nine-year-old James Craik has achieved every player’s dream of a hole-in-one a feat his dad and grandad have yet to celebrate after almost a combined century of exasperation on the fairways.
The Edzell Primary School pupil proved he may have what it takes to play to the gallery after making the strike on the opening hole of the weekend medal with his junior pals gathered around ready to tee off.
A sweetly-struck five-iron to the par-three first on the club’s nine-hole West Water course saw the primary five youngster’s ball find the cup, to the delight of the crowd.
“This is his first season as a junior so he’s only really been a member for about 40 days, which isn’t bad going,” said proud dad Gordon, of Edzell’s Glenesk Hotel.
“His grandad’s been playing for around 60 years and myself for 30, so he’s pretty chuffed to get a hole-in-one in only his fourth round.
“The few holes after that weren’t great, but he said that was because of the excitement and he finished well with fours and fives.”
