An Angus father-of-three has collapsed and died while on holiday in Spain.
Steven Lyon, from Carnoustie, had been enjoying a break in the Costa Blanca area with his parents Rodger and Linda when he took ill while jogging on Sunday.
The exact cause of the 48-year-old accountant’s death is being investigated by the Spanish authorities before his body will be repatriated to Scotland.
Elke Mai, Steven’s wife of 17 years, was back at the family home in Maule Street when the tragedy occurred.
Speaking with her sister-in-laws Allyson and Irene at her side, Elke Mai paid tribute to her husband, saying he was a “loving family man” who was devoted to his three children, Ben (14), Fergus (12) and Ellie (8).
“He was a warm and loving person who had loads of friends,” said Mrs Lyon. “I just can’t believe it and I know he will be sorely missed by a lot of people.’Family all the way'”It was family all the way with him he was always there for everyone and he was a loving father and a loving son. He was a devoted dad and family man.”
Mr Lyon was a golf fan and regularly enjoyed a game on his home town links. He also liked to keep fit in the gym at the Carnoustie Golf Hotel, where he was a member.
Mrs Lyon said running was her husband’s passion and he enjoyed both participating in his favourite pastimes and watching top-class sport.
She said, “He loved his golf and he loved watching football and then there was his running.”
Following the tragedy, Mr Lyon’s brother Greig travelled to Spain to support his parents and help organise the repatriation.
News of his death stunned colleagues at the Stirling-based Robertson Group, where Mr Lyon was financial director.’Shocked’A company spokesman said, “Everyone at Robertson is shocked at the tragic death of Steve and our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.”
Mr Lyon had previously served as a financial director of Bett Homes and was appointed as group finance director for Bett Brothers in September, 2001.
Carnoustie and district councillor Brian Boyd who has also had to endure the death of a close relative abroad said the local community would be affected by Mr Lyon’s death.
He said his sympathies went out to Mr Lyon’s family.
“I know exactly what the family are going through,” said Mr Boyd. “It is just terrible he was a young man.
“For this situation to happen to him and his family is just horrendous and, as the local councillor, my heart goes out to them.”
