Angus people are overwhelmingly calling for a cull of gulls if a new Facebook page is anything to go by.
Montrose councillor Mark Salmond set up the page over the weekend, giving citizens the chance to say what they would like to happen to the birds that are blighting the county.
Mr Salmond said: “I wanted to know if the public would support a humane cull of the gulls. Private companies have done it. We, as a council, to date have chosen not to go down that route.
“I understand that we already have a licence to cull if we choose to do so.”
Although the council has steered away from culling the gulls, Mr Salmond wanted to know townsfolk”s views on the matter so set up the Facebook page.
He stressed he was taking no position himself at this stage but simply wanted to find out what were the options and if there was support from Angus residents for a humane cull.
He said: “The message I am receiving loud and clear is that the seagull population is now out of control. Residents are telling me they want Angus Council to put measures in place to control the number of seagulls.
“I want the chief executive of Angus Council to bring forward a report outlining what we do at the moment, what we could do and what other options we could consider to deal with the ever-growing population of seagulls.”
