Opera diva Lesley Garrett’s appearance in Angus has generated interest from far and wide.
Garrett is to be Arbroath Male Voice Choir’s special guest in March at its annual concert dates in the Webster Theatre, Arbroath.
The choir has begun rehearsing for the concerts after resuming regular practice evenings after the summer break.
Choir president Dr Richard Irvine said: ”This is a real coup for the choir and we can’t wait for these gala concerts to come round.
”It’s not every day that you get to sing with an international superstar so the choir is really looking forward to these dates.”
With over 40 men on stage, the choir will bring audiences the power and passion of male voice singing with selections from the popular, classical, musical theatre and Scottish repertoire under the direction of Sheena Guthrie.
Dr Irvine added: ”We have already had inquiries about the concerts from as far afield as the south coast of England. These gala concerts will really help to establish the Webster Theatre as a quality top-class venue, which can only be good for the region.”
Garrett is Britain’s most popular soprano, regularly appearing in opera, in concert and on television.
She has performed throughout Europe, the USA, Australia, Russia, Brazil, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia and South Korea.
She was awarded a CBE in the 2002 New Year’s honours list for services to music.
Aside from its concert with Garrett the choir also has several charity and the popular Christmas concerts planned for the season.
