Fast food chain KFC is planning to take the fight for Forfar customers to one of its key rivals.
Plans have been lodged for a new restaurant and drive-thru at a gateway site to the town’s Orchardbank business park across the road from competitor McDonald’s.
The company said the proposal is at an early stage, but indicated it would hope to bring up to 40 jobs to what would be their second Angus outlet following the successful opening of a restaurant at Westway in Arbroath earlier this year.
Angus planners have received an official application for the single-storey restaurant at Plot 1, Silvie Way, Orchardbank, which is home to Angus Council’s HQ campus.
The proposed 0.3 hectare location is at the south west gateway to the business park, and across the A94 Forfar-Coupar Angus road from the McDonald’s outlet at Halfpennyburn, one of the neighbours notified as part of the planning application.
A KFC spokesman said: ”We can confirm that we have submitted plans for a site in Forfar but we are still at a very early stage and so we can’t say too much at the moment.
”A new KFC would generate between 30-40 jobs for the local community and so we hope to have some good news soon.”
Councillors have said they would welcome any inward investment to the vacant land, hoping that it might bring permanent positions rather than just part-time jobs.
Approval of the Forfar plan would replicate the Arbroath situation, where the two fast food chains sit opposite each other in the west end business park.
