A shop owner is offering a £100 reward after a vandal smashed his shop window at the weekend.

Dave McNicoll, who owns Carnoustie Golf Shop, said the incident was the first time his premises had been targeted in 16 years on the town’s High Street. The 7ft by 10ft pane was broken overnight on Friday.

Mr McNicoll has made up a ‘Wanted’ poster to put on the front on the store, with a reward for any information that will lead to the vandal being traced.

He said: ”We have got huge windows at our shop on the High Street and somebody has gone and completely shattered the whole thing. The police have been around and said they are going to check the CCTV.

”I just saw it when I came in on Saturday morning. It has been shattered but it has not broken right through and it didn’t set the fire alarm off.

”They knew what they were doing. Whether they were drunk or sober I don’t know, but they still would have known what they were doing. With this being the week before Christmas I am hoping the reward will be a bribe for somebody to turn them in.”

The shop’s insurance firm sent a glazier to board up the window on a temporary basis. McNicoll said he will still be liable to pay the excess on the window, which could run into hundreds of pounds.

Police confirmed officers were called to the scene by the owner at around 9.40am on Saturday, after the damage was discovered. The incident is being treated as vandalism and is under investigation.

Carnoustie Golf Shop opened at its current location in 2000 and offers an advanced custom fitting service. It has more than 50 years’ experience in the golf industry The store is well-known amongst both amateur and professional golfers.
