Lessons at Grange Primary School in Monifieth are about to become a lot more fun.
Thanks to the inspiration of a Dundee University architecture student, pupils can look forward to taking classes in an outdoor dome that looks like a cross between a teepee and an igloo.
The project saw 68 second-year students submit designs. The winner, Willow Dome, comes from Stephen Samson (29), who is originally from South Africa.
He said: ”This is the first project I’ve been involved in that will result in something being built so it has been an amazing learning experience in all aspects. I’m very excited about seeing the classroom develop and built.”
The idea for an outdoor classroom came from a member of the school’s parent council and head teacher Lorraine Will asked the university to help.
She said: ”We couldn’t be happier with the work the students did for us, and the final design, which is just absolutely brilliant.”
A fundraising drive to pay for the £10,000 cost of the structure is now under way and the hope is the classroom will be built and ready for use by next summer.
