A new Angus community windfarm group is set for its inaugural meeting.
Last month, former chief executive of Angus Council David Sawers was appointed chairman for the Corse Hill Wind Farm Community Benefit Forum.
The body has been set up in partnership with West Coast Energy, who have made a planning application for a seven-turbine windfarm between Arbroath and Carnoustie.
Part of the deal would see the local area benefit from a community turbine scheme that would see profits generated by one of the structures go to worthy initiatives.
Members of the forum would have responsibility for deciding how those funds are distributed.
A meeting will be held on Tuesday at Angus College in Arbroath and Mr Sawers is keen to ensure anybody with an interest has their voice heard.
He said: ”As my first role as chair of the Corse Hill Community Benefit Forum I am keen to ensure all communities local to the site who feel they have an interest in the proposals are given the opportunity to attend our next meeting, and become part of the group in some capacity.
”For this reason I would like to extend an invitation to any representatives of groups with a local interest to come along on Tuesday and make themselves known to us. During the meeting on Tuesday we will be deciding on the final membership of the group before moving on to discussing the community benefit at our next meeting, so this is a last opportunity to become part of the group before the membership is closed.”
Mr Sawers will chair the forum for the next six months.
The group will discuss the most suitable legal model to be entered into, to ensure the profit from the community turbine can pass from the windfarm company to the local community, should consent be granted.
The planning application for Corse Hill was submitted in November.
