Monifieth’s Blue Seaway playpark has fallen into a state of disrepair following a string of attacks and accidents in recent months.
The park’s climbing frame has been fenced off after being set on fire in February and children’s equipment, including swings, have been out of action since the start of the year.
Monifieth Community Council chairman John Whellams said recent visits to the park had ”not been a pleasant experience”.
He said: ”If you don’t repair vandalised items, then the vandals will think you don’t care and come down and do some more.”
In addition to the burnt climbing frame, fins were removed from the wooden animals on the seats overlooking the river.
Birds on the observation platform have also rotted, while a mounted telescope was taken away as it proved a target for thieves.
An Angus Council spokeswoman said: ”Equipment at the Blue Seaway park had to be removed due to a combination of vandalism and normal wear and tear.
”We have just finished the installation of a replacement toddlers’ multi-play unit. We placed orders for replacement parts and equipment at the beginning of April and are actively working with the suppliers to ensure delivery of the equipment as soon as possible, to enable us to reinstate the aerial runway and chute.
”Repairs to seating in the park will be carried out as budgets permit.”
