A teenager was trapped in her car for an hour on Saturday after it flipped on its roof and landed in a field in a head-on collision near Piperdam.
Firefighters had to use hydraulic cutting equipment to free the teenager from the wreckage of the vehicle.
The woman and a 47-year-old male driver had been travelling east in their blue Vauxhall Insignia along the A923 Coupar Angus to Birkhill road around 8.45am when they were involved in the collision with a red Land Rover Discovery.
Debris was scattered as the Vauxhall was thrown on to its roof and down the embankment.
Police and two ambulances rushed to the scene near Piperdam and called in Tayside Fire and Rescue.
A spokeswoman for the fire service said: ”The call came in from the police and two appliances were sent from Macalpine Road.
”When we arrived we found one car down the embankment in a nearby field, one person trapped and one person out of the vehicle being treated by paramedics. Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to release the occupant and they were transferred to hospital.”
The driver of the Vauxhall, who managed to walk free from his vehicle, had head injuries and was taken to Ninewells Hospital for further examination.
A police spokesman said the two other two casualties ”sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics.”
The road was closed for around four hours as police officers photographed the scene and carried out an investigation.
Police issued an appeal for anyone who may have seen the collision or the vehicles immediately before the incident to call them on 0300 111 2222.
