Opinion is split over plans for a filling station and caravan park on the edge of an Angus village.
Carnoustie Community Council has been lobbied by Muirdrum residents, claiming the plans would destroy the area’s nature, cause traffic danger and noise pollution.
Addressing the council, architect for both developments Roger Brunton spoke on behalf of developer and resident Gavin Watson.
Mr Brunton said the two developments are separate the filling station and convenience store application was submitted to Angus Council, while the application for a caravan park including a licensed premises and playpark had to go through consultation.
The earliest application date is in September, and Mr Brunton said plans could alter dramatically. He also rejected suggestions it could become a ”trailer park”.
Councillor Ed Oswald raised concerns from villagers over the development’s size.
Mr Brunton agreed it would change the village but said it would save villagers a three-mile journey into Carnoustie for milk.
Asked if he thought the filling station might be in the wrong place, Mr Brunton said access would be from a new roundabout to the south.
He said the store would cover 2,000 square feet, similar to the shop attached to the petrol station in Barnhill, where many Carnoustie motorists buy their fuel.
