The organisers of Scotland’s biggest vintage vehicle display have vowed the show will go on.
As events continue to fall victim to the atrocious summer weather, there is a defiant message from the Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club.
Glamis Castle takes its traditional role as the venue for what will be the 38th annual Scottish Transport Extravaganza over Saturday and Sunday.
The organisers, SVVC, say they are taking every possible step to ensure inclement weather does not put a dampener on the popular weekend.
An entry list of 1,300 vehicles of all kinds up on previous years has come in for 2012 and the organising club has put together its own special celebration to mark the Queen’s diamond jubilee.
Their appeal for a vehicle representing every year of the Queen’s reign has unearthed a spectacular array of two and four-wheeled machinery and SVVC administrator Lesley Munro said she is confident the automotive timeline will be a spectacular part of the weekend.
The SVVC base at Bridgeview, near Glamis, has become a hive of activity.
”Of course the weather is a concern, but we have taken the decision that the Extravaganza will definitely go ahead and we are trying to do all we can to pre-empt problems which inclement weather might create,” she said.
”There is too much goes into organising the extravaganza and it is such a popular event that cancelling it is not something we would do lightly.
”A lot of the stand holders have already told us they are delighted we are going ahead with the event because they have obviously had a very difficult year so far.
”We are sure it will all come together for the weekend. We have also spoken to the police and they have encouraged us to limit traffic movement in the site as much as possible, so if we would extend that to an appeal to visitors to consider car sharing, that would be helpful.
”We’ve drawn a huge entry this year and though not all those vehicles will be on display both days, that is a huge variety of vehicles for visitors to enjoy.”Find out more at www.svvc.co.uk
