Teenagers revving scooters and shouting abuse at staff at an Angus takeaway have been slammed for their behaviour.
Arbroath residents have voiced their anger at the gang of youths who descended on Pie Bobs bakery off Montrose Road in the early hours of Sunday.
Shop staff confronted the group of around half a dozen youngsters and asked them to switch off their engines and stop the noise, but instead were met with a verbal attack.
A worker, who asked not to be named, said: ”I went out to them about three times to ask them to keep it down and all I got was a mouthful of abuse.
”They did leave but they came back again and were doing big wheelspins up and down the road. I don’t know where they have come from this is the first time they have appeared.”
The bikers are thought to be aged between 17 and 18 and were all riding low-powered scooters or dirt bikes.
Local man Billy Davidson took to the Tayside Police Facebook page to report the nuisance noise that kept residents in nearby streets awake.
He posted a message claiming the teens were ”flying up and down the road” at around 2am, with ”no police in sight”.
Mr Davidson went on to call for enhanced CCTV in the area to deter the culprits from returning.
The issue of excess noise from motorcycles is an ongoing bug-bear for members of Arbroath Community Council, who regularly field complaints from residents.
Spokesman for the group, Ian Watson, said Pie Bobs’ late opening hours were likely to attract the youngsters to ”show off” on their bikes.
He added: ”This has been raised at the last two community council meetings, but unfortunately what the police are telling us is that unless they are seen to be breaking the law in some way then there is not much that can be done.
”They have to physically be caught riding the pavements or riding without a helmet or something like that before they can do anything. I used to be a motorcycle rider myself so I know the noise they can make, but at that time of night the sound travels much further.
”I know Pie Bobs is now open late at night and that is maybe what is attracting the youngsters up there when they come out of the pubs and nightclubs.”
