An Angus man who admitted growing his own cannabis has been given a community pay back order at Forfar Sheriff Court.
Adam Mann (31), of Threewells Drive, Forfar, was told to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work in the community after being caught with two plants and cannabis cultivation paraphernalia on June 1.
Depute fiscal Nicola Gillespie told the court how police had obtained a search warrant based on intelligence for Mann’s address at the time in Lowson Avenue and used drugs dogs in the process of their search.
During the course of the search two plants were found along with plant pots, a heat lamp, a transformer box and all the associated items for cultivating the class B drug.
Ms Gillespie added that if the plants had grown to full maturity they could have produced between £320 and £960 worth of drugs.
Defence solicitor Bob Bruce told the court that Mann had been growing the plants to avoid having to source cannabis from drug dealers.
Mr Bruce added: ”It was two plants and his view is that he appreciates that it is not to be engaged in and he has advised me that he is not smoking it any more.”
In addition to the community pay back order Sheriff Kevin Veal made an order to confiscate the plants and for forfeiture of the various items found at the property used to grow them.
