Dangerous driving costs Kirriemuir man a pretty penny

An offshore worker’s rush to spend a penny at McDonald’s ended up costing him £1,350.

Traffic police spotted Kristofer Morrice racing out of Forfar on the wrong side of the road, but when they pulled him over he gave a false name to avoid being caught for other driving offences.

The 25-year-old told officers he had been in a hurry to get to the toilet at the nearby fast food outlet beside the A90.

At the town’s sheriff court on Thursday, Morrice, of Morrison Street, Kirriemuir, admitting driving dangerously on Glamis Road, Forfar, on January 31, without insurance or a licence and attempting to pervert the course of justice by giving false particulars.

Fiscal depute Nicola Gillespie said the accused was seen at about 10pm behind other cars going out of the town.

As they reached the 40mph limit, Morrice accelerated harshly and overtook them, passing on the wrong side of a traffic island at a speed estimated in excess of 60mph.

Defence agent Brian Bell said: ”He has a limited record and with a good income is in a position to pay a financial penalty.”

Sheriff Veal ordered Morrice to pay the £1,350 fine by the end of the year. He also banned Morrice for a year and ordered him to resit an extended test.
