An Angus man is to stand trial after denying he abducted two female police constables by locking them in his home.
Kevin Robertson (50), from Forfar, appeared at the town’s sheriff court on Thursday to face six charges relating to the alleged incident at his home on August 16.
Robertson denied the charges and Sheriff Kevin Veal continued the case, with a trial date set for February 5.
Police attended Robertson’s address on August 16, where he was charged with stealing a quantity of money.
He is alleged to have resisted, molested, obstructed or hindered the officers and struggled with them violently, lashing out at them with his arms and legs before escaping from their custody.
He is then accused of assaulting one of the officers by punching her on the arm before abducting both constables by locking them in his flat. According to the charge, this prevented the police officers from leaving and detained them against their will.
Robertson was also charged with breaking free from the constables who had detained him and running off from the premises with them locked inside to prevent them from pursuing him.
He is also accused of driving off from the flat to intentionally pervert the course of justice.
Robertson is also alleged to have behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by repeatedly shouting and swearing.
He had been due to appear at court to face the charges on a previous occasion but failed to attend.
When he appeared yesterday, Robertson denied all charges against him and was excused for his previous failure to turn up. His previous bail conditions were continued.
