Alan Stephen appeared from custody at Arbroath Sheriff Court on Monday following the alleged incident in Montrose on Sunday. The 62-year-old doctor entered a not guilty plea to a charge of driving with excess alcohol in Castle Place and Bridge Street. Defence agent Angela McLardy said Stephen owns the luxury car outright and he and his wife are the named drivers. She added: “Mr Stephen lives in Helensburgh and he was planning on using the vehicle to get home. It is currently at the police station.” Depute fiscal Hazel Anderson said: “It is a very high reading and that is the concern the Crown has.” Stephen, of West Montrose Street, Helensburgh, was granted bail on the special condition that he does not drive. Sheriff Peter Paterson fixed a trial date of November 7 and the case will next call for an intermediate diet on October 22.
