Charity staff reacted with disgust after their offices were broken into and the petty cash stolen for the second time in 10 days.
The front door of Relationship Scotland’s premises at 21 Dock Street, Dundee, was jemmied open and internal reinforced glass doors were smashed before thieves stole £157 in cash and trashed the offices.
The charity’s office manager Bill Muir said they had previously been broken into and robbed of over £100 in petty cash.
Police confirmed a break-in had occurred at the offices and said a number of other offices in the block also had doors damaged.
Bill said he arrived at the office shortly before 8am on Tuesday to find the police waiting for him.
”Whoever it was had jemmied the front door but they then used something heavy to smash the reinforced windows in the upstairs doors,” he said.
”They just trashed the place and stole the petty cash. There was £157 in it. Last time it was £107 that was 10 days ago.
”We just don’t understand it. We have computer equipment here but they’ve just taken the money and eaten the biscuits as far as we can see.
”They’ve made a real mess of the place. Why would anybody do this to a charitable organisation?”
He added: ”The doors need re-securing and the windows will need replaced. That will cost quite a lot of money and there will be an excess on the insurance, so it will cost us money.
”I just think it’s unfathomable. I’m bemused by the belief that someone would break into a charity’s premises and steal their petty cash.
”All we do is provide a service to families and make arrangement for parents to maybe work things out so they can see their children. Obviously these people just want cash for something.”
