Fat Sams attacker was ‘within a whisker’ of being held in custody

A Forfar man who punched another man in the head and knocked him unconscious in a Dundee nightclub was told he came “within a whisker of being remanded in custody” on Wednesday.
Alan Stewart, 24, of Turin Cottages, Forfar, failed to attend a court-ordered social work report appointment.
Defence solicitor David Duncan said: “He started a new job which is better and more regular work.”
Stewart was only notified of the job on Friday and was told Monday, the day of his social work appointment, was the induction day.
Stewart had previously admitted that on July 21, at Fat Sams, South Ward Road, he punched the man on the head, knocking him unconscious to his injury.
Sheriff Elizabeth Munro deferred sentence until October 7 and told Stewart: “You really came within a whisker of being remanded in custody.”
