Dundee United absolves players of blame for Liquid Nightclub incident
ByThe Courier Reporter
Dundee United players have been absolved of any blame by the club for an incident at a nightclub on Saturday.
The players had gone to Liquid Nightclub after a £40,000 fundraising charity night for young striker Jordan Moore, who had been battling cancer, when they were apparently abused by a customer.
Posts on social media suggested United forwards Nadir Ciftci and Mario Bilate were approached by a man and racially and physically abused.
Dozens of users took to social media and football forums in the aftermath of the incident.
The players were interviewed by United on Monday and a statement said they had been verbally and physically assaulted.
“It is clear to the club that the players involved had made every effort to remove themselves from the situation and showed great restraint under quite severe verbal and physical provocation.
“We are wholly satisfied with the conduct of the players given the difficult circumstance they found themselves in.
“Neither the club nor the players will be taking any further action and the matter is now closed.”
The police were not involved and Liquid parent company Luminar Leisure said they would be making inquiries.
