Dundee minister says parents feel ‘run over’ by council over plans to axe Menzieshill High

A Dundee minister said parents feel as if they are being “run over” by the council over plans to axe Menzieshill High.
The Rev Bob Mallinson, minister of Menzieshill Parish Church, also hit out at the soaring cost of the city’s V&A museum in the midst of the possible closure.
Hundreds of people attended a meeting on Thursday where council education director Michael Wood was questioned over the proposals.
Mr Mallinson, who attended the meeting as a parent, said: “There was a very disgruntled atmosphere.
“There is a real sense that the community feels run over by the council. They believe something is being stripped away from the community.
“There is not enough creative thinking from the council. They just seem to be pushing through their agenda.”
Mr Mallinson added people were confused and upset about the situation.
He said: “One thing that does concern me is that we were discussing the closure of a high school when the budget of the V&A is almost doubling.”
The education committee has agreed in principle to shut Menzieshill High at the close of the 2015/16 session.
A decision on the proposed closure will be made in May.
