A woman accused of attacking an 87-year-old Montrose man then claiming he raped her told “one Oscar-worthy lie after another”, a court has heard.
Louise McDougall denies three charges of assaulting and robbing wheelchair-bound William Watson, behaving in a threatening and abusive manner and of wasting police time.
McDougall, 25, of Mount Avenue, Montrose, claims the pensioner sexually assaulted her and she acted in self-defence.
Prosecutors say she repeatedly struck Mr Watson, took her clothes off and robbed him, then phoned 999 and told police she had been raped.
Mr Watson, who is profoundly deaf and gave evidence through a sign language interpreter, told Dundee Sheriff Court he was struck with a poker and had a knife held to his throat.
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson told the court on Tuesday that McDougall was a “liar who has fabricated evidence” to the police.
She said she had “lost count” of the number of times Mr Watson had denied her allegations during his evidence.
“He presented as someone who was telling the truth despite the nature of the allegations that were being put to him.”
Advocate Jonathan Crowe, defending, said McDougall “vehemently denies” the accusations and said Mr Watson’s evidence was “inconsistent” and “evasive”.
He said Mr Martin had assaulted his client and added that if her allegations had been a cover-up for her actions then “why on earth didn’t she just take the money and run” instead of telephoning the police?
The trial continues.
