A Dundee man is suing police for £100,000 in damages for the injuries he suffered when knocked down by a patrol car.
James Begg, 59, has lodged an action at the Court of Session in Edinburgh in relation to a collision in the Douglas area of the city in 2011.
Mr Begg had been walking to a Chinese takeaway and was crossing the road when he was struck by the car.
He received fractures to his legs and four broken ribs in the collision and spent two weeks in Ninewells Hospital.
PC Gary Johnston, of Police Scotland’s Tayside Division, was found not guilty of careless driving during a three-day trial at Dundee Sheriff Court in 2013.
The court was told that PC Johnston was driving within the speed limit and on the correct side of the road when the crash occurred.
Sheriff Walter Mercer said he was “not persuaded” the collision was the result of careless driving.
Despite the outcome of the criminal case, a civil action seeking damages of £100,000 has now been lodged at the Court of Session.
Law firm Muir Myles Laverty, acting on behalf of Mr Begg, claims Police Scotland is still responsible for his injuries.
