Campaigners claim victory as legal highs shop beside school closes

A shop which sold legal highs just yards from a Dundee school has closed its doors.
The closure of Holy Smoke a unit within Gunther Hoffman Hairdressing on Albert Street, near Morgan Academy has been described as a victory by campaigners.
Harry Gorman, 82, previously admitted selling legal highs from the store but insisted the substances weren’t dangerous to those who take them and the only risks came from mixing them with other drugs.
He also claimed there would be a riot if the sale of legal highs was stopped.
Chris James, 34, who runs a group called Rebel Against Legal High Shops, said: “The shop shouldn’t have been allowed to open anywhere near a school.
“Kids think that because the stuff is being sold in a shop, it’s safe. This is totally not the case, and it’s great this shop is closed.”
He added that more needs to be done to punish landlords who allow shops selling legal highs to open.
The owner of Holy Smoke could not be contacted.
